Riding Lessons & Horse Programs

Swell Equestrian offers horseback riding lessons to those within the Halifax Regional Municipality and beyond. We are located in beautiful Lawrencetown, a 10 minute drive from Cole Harbour, 20 minutes from Dartmouth and 30 minutes from Halifax. Our riding school programs are offered form beginner to advanced. Our experienced riding instructors and coaches will help determine what level or program you would be best suited for.

Learn to Ride

Beginner Riding Lesson Program

We teach people of all ages and abilities how to begin riding horses. This group is for students who have never ridden a horse in a lesson program before, and who are new to horses. They can expect to learn how to handle a horse on the ground, general care for a horse, groom, tack up, and begin walking and trotting on horseback.

Parents, friends, or guardians are required to stay for the duration of the lesson and help lead the horse the rider is on while the instructor gives direction.  This program is open to both children and adults.​

Registration will  open  for our next Learn to Ride Program! The first lesson is Saturday October 4   from 1pm-3pm  Registration will open for this session Monday September 15. Please enrol using the button below and send a copy of the signed waiver to swellequestrian@gmail.com.

Offered for adults and children  ages 7+ 

Cost: $305 (incl. HST) monthly, for 1 lesson per week for group lessons (up to five riders per lesson)

Time commitment: 2 hours once weekly

Beyond Beginner

Intermediate Program

This program is designed for students who have some experience with horses, know basic horsemanship and are able to walk, trot and canter on horseback. This program is designed for riders who wish to continue their training and learn how to jump. If you're interested in joining this program, we need to schedule you for an assessment lesson to determine which group lesson you would be best suited for, or find you a regular private lesson slot.

Offered for adults and children ages 7+

Cost: $305 (incl. HST) monthly, for 1 lesson per week for group lessons (up to five riders per lesson).

Semi-Private lessons are $91 (incl. HST) per lesson (two riders).

Private lessons, one hour are $102 (incl. HST) per lesson (one rider).

Time commitment: 2 hours once weekly

Private lessons, half hour are $55 (incl. HST), Time commitment 1 hour.

​

Makeup Lesson are available  for $10 per rider per lesson including hst. In the event we have to cancel your lesson there is no charge for a makeup.

Independent Rides

Independent Program

This program is available to students of our lesson program.  The Independent Ride program  is designed for students who have experience with horses, understand and apply basic horse care,  and are able to walk, trot and canter on horseback. This program is designed for riders who are requesting  one weekly independent ride.

​

Riders under the age of 18 must be supervised by an adult at all times.

​

This program offers one weekly independent ride per month. â€‹

Time commitment,  2 hours once week. Cost for the program is $170 per month including hst, and sold on a monthly basis!

 Lessons with Nathalie Green

Looking for an extra lesson or you can't commit to weekly group lessons? Or are you seeking private  lessons? Are you open to learning new skills? Nathalie  offers pay as you go group lessons in jumping and flatwork on  Tuesday mornings, Thursday mornings and Saturday afternoons. Private lessons are available upon your request. Part Time Working Student

Part Time  Program

Are you seeking more structure, technique, knowledge, and  and horse time on a part time basis? If so our Part Time Working Student position could check these boxes off  for you.  In this program you have a blend of lessons, independent rides or hacks (weather and events impact this).  You also have the option to attend  some pre selected off property  competitions with one of our horses and  Nathalie. In this program you required to work some  stable and horse chores. Stable and Horse Chores have flexibility as we know everyone has commitments outside of the barn. 

​

To compensate you for your work you get to choose between being put on Payroll or working off stable and horse chores towards your Monthly Working Student Fee! 

Equestrian Canada Rider Levels Program

We encourage students to formalize their riding education and skills by completing the Equestrian Canada Rider Levels. This provides a structured and tiered foundation for handling and riding horses at all levels. Lesson horses are available for riders who wish to be tested for their Rider Levels.

We offer the opportunity for riders who are part of our  facility  to hack with us. Hacks are a great way to improve  the balance in your riding, &  trust with a horse.
